Seats

How seats are taken and returned, and what to do when none are free.

A seat is one person using SonicCloud at a given moment. Seats are shared across your organization.

How seats work

  1. A user opens SonicCloud and takes a seat.
  2. The seat stays reserved while SonicCloud is open.
  3. When the user closes SonicCloud, the seat returns to the pool.

If a workstation shuts down unexpectedly, its seat returns automatically within about 30 minutes. An administrator can release it sooner.

For users

SonicCloud takes and returns a seat for you. To help colleagues, close SonicCloud when you are not using it. If SonicCloud reports a license problem, tell your IT team the message and the time it appeared.

Plan the right number

  1. Note the highest number of seats in use each day for four weeks.
  2. Compare that peak with your purchased seats.
  3. If the peak regularly reaches your limit, discuss more seats with SonicCloud before renewal.

When all seats are in use

New users see a message that no seats are available until someone closes SonicCloud. Administrators can see who holds seats in the admin console and release any that are no longer needed.
