How it works

What the Tuning Wizard does, and why it asks what it asks.

The Tuning Wizard is a separate guided feature of SonicCloud. It opens in its own window, walks you through a short listening session, and saves one or more new profiles. It does not change anything else in the app.

Both editions

The Tuning Wizard is available in the online and offline editions, and it works the same way in both. The only difference is where the ready-made profiles come from.

The idea

Most people find the right sound by comparing, not by describing it. The wizard lets you hear two options, then asks which sounds better. A few simple questions at the start decide which options you hear first, so you reach a good result in fewer steps.

Two stages

Find a base profile

In Tuning, you compare ready-made profiles until you find one that suits you. If it is still not loud enough, the wizard asks you to raise Boost while listening. When you have a good starting point it says so: "Okay, now that you've got a base profile, let's FINE TUNE!"

Fine tune it

In Fine Tuning, you adjust individual sliders, and each ear separately where it helps. The wizard saves the result as a new profile and lets you compare it with the one you started from.

Why the wizard asks for 10 seconds

A brief listen is rarely enough to judge a sound. Each comparison requires at least 10 seconds with each profile before you can choose, and the second profile unlocks once the first has played long enough. You can let the wizard switch between them for you.

Why wired headphones

Wired audio responds instantly. Wireless audio adds a small delay that can change how an adjustment sounds, especially when your two ears differ. The wizard shows your connection type on the first screen and reminds you before fine tuning.

What the wizard never does

  • It does not diagnose or measure your hearing.
  • It does not replace professional advice or the settings of a hearing aid or cochlear implant.
  • It does not remove or change profiles you already have. It only adds new ones, with names you choose.

What it creates

Each profile you save appears in SonicCloud's profile list. From there you can select it, adjust its sliders, rename it or delete it. See Profiles and Sliders.
